Sailing Beyond the Golden Gate Bridge
Aboard the Royaliste 8-23-03

We sailed out beyond the Golden Gate Bridge aboard the tall
ship 'The Royaliste', leaving the San Francisco Bay behind us and heading out into the open sea. Black dolphins leapt out of the water in front of the ship, seals swam alongside begging for treats and birds of every type flew, swam and dove beneath the water around us. It was a spectacular sail with beautiful, sunny weather. About 1-1/2 miles out to sea, a tired butterfly hitched a ride on the muzzle of the number 1 positioned cannon on the port side, which is named "Claire". Upon our return to the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge towered majestically above us...
