My sword is the Functional Pirate Cutlass by Windlass Steelcrafts. I've been using this sword for over a year now. Here's my review.

Good points:
I love the look. With the brass guard, it just screams pirate.
It's a very tough sword. The blade can really take a serious pounding.
It's well-balanced. It is comfortable to handle and maneuver
The $139 price is very reasonable for a battle-worthy sword

Bad points:
It's heavy. It takes its toll on my arm during long parades.
The grip is wood, it really needs to be wrapped with leather.
The brass guard has worked loose on mine and needs to be welded
The pommel screw that holds it all together has a tendancy to loosen.

Over all:
It's a good functional sword at a good price. The blade is great. If you get this cutlass, plan to do some upgrading if you use it for a lot of battle reenactments. You'll want to solder the guard to the hilt, replace the pommel nut with a less decorative and more functional nut, wrap the hilt with leather or tennis racket grip and as with most swords, grind the blade down a bit to dull it so that it can take hits without chipping. Out of the box it's ready to go, but I'd recommend the modifications listed for long-term use.

Here is a page with detailed product information.

My cutlass WAS a 1742 British Infantry Sword.... But I hacksawed off the pommel and replaced the grup with one made out of antler....

The next step is to sharpen the blade (it's a "real " cutlass) then slightly "age" it, so it looks "well used"

I'll post pictures when it's done

My sword was cheap and it doesn't weigh much. That's all I know about it. LOL!

The sword that I carry is also the Functional Pirate Cutlass by Windlass Steelcrafts. I don't do combat reenactment with it, as I ordered it with an edge. The look is great for a pirate, and it's well-balanced. The steel is tough yet flexible, and the weight is suitable for maneuverability. Were I to use it more, I think I would also wrap the handle with leather.

Overall it's a very good sword. During a prolonged sequence I don't think it would give me trouble, but then again I've been known to wield a bokto one-handed. ps##4

Aye, Lady B., and would ye be after seein' how me sword is handled? Perhaps grace the hilt with yer own hand? Tis a fine weapon under duress, an' it holds up proudly. The brass bits are solid, an' quite functional. A finer piece o' craftsmanship ye've ne'er seen before. ps#5

ps##4 .....Oh God....Amuck,Amuck,Amuck.....Leave off the Irish....A finer group of Pyrates there ne'r be......MY Blades are many...... I have a 1753 Sgts.Hanger,a 1600's Rapier, and 1800's ceremonial sword, and a 1400's broad sword......Me favorite is the Hanger as it is in my chosen time span. It's well made and was purchased through G.Gedney Godwin many yars ago.Like Patricks, she has a fine shape and look....The only drawback, the basket hilt limits it's use....But as I'm too old ta keep up with the likes of Iron Jack, and in my day I could have,I think, me sword lives up to her name....She's a great Hanger, from me Baldric, as it were....IH

My weapons o'choice are a custom made set of cutlass / dirk circa 1690 from Darkwood Armory. Its my "Instructor's Set" and as a hybrid of two different Dutch styles is the only set in existence. An' I paid a lot to keep it that way! ps#5

I'll be bringing em to BACA this May.

My Pistol is a 1730 British Dragoon; 19 inches and about .62 calibre from Loyalist Arms in Nova Scotia.

I don't think I can get a better set o weapons for my purposes!
