Howdy! New Texas pirate here!
So I dress for Tex Ren Fest every year, usually in a leather corset. This year is proving to be a challenge as I will be 6 and 7 months pregnant during the festival's run. Can't really smush the little guy in! haha.
I'm really stuck at a dead end since I have so far only been able to find maiden gowns that are baby belly friendly. Well Molly O'Steel is no maiden!
Any suggestions or links would be awesome because I'm really really at a loss and I only have about a month left to think something up. I really don't want to sit out on the fun this year because of my pregnancy, considering my crew and I have already come up with a great story for Molly. She has been "boarded" by a pirate from the Spanish Main! (Boyfriend is Hispanic, hehe) |

Perhaps try a Kirtle.... it is a loose fitting dress... or do a chamise with a loose fitting waist cincher - - lots of loose layers.
Congrats on the babe!

I'd say go with anything with an Empire waist. Take a look at some of the Napoleon and Josephine costuming for inspiration, like these:
I found these by typing costume josephine into Google.
Congratulations on the wee pirate! _________________

That is all I have been able to find is empire gowns. Not too sure how I could pirate them up...
I could have sworn I have seen some bodices that are empire style, similar to a belly dancer's choli but with a bit of boning and structure. Maybe I dreamt it up haha. But if I could find something like that I could wear my chemise top since it is big anyway and my usual pirate garb pants under my tummy. I can't seem to find anything similar on the garb sites I have found.
I might just have to forgo dressing opening weekend so I can do a bit of shopping with the vendors and try to work something out. |

Actually, you could dress as a man for the last few months! Get a large vest... some very baggy pants, under the vest wrap a sash.... put lots of hanging things to disquise your tummy....
The belly dance choli top - - - does not cover your tummy and often it is backless.
You will find something! _________________ Purveyor of fine Treasures and Wot-nots

Hey but what if you took the structure of a choli, removed the short sleeves, put a chemise under it and sewed a skirt to it?! _________________

To bad I found this so late...
Something to think about.... both Anne Bonny and Mary Read were Preginant when they were captured.... ( they Plead "thier bellys".....)
OK... I have no idea what they were wearing at the time..... |
